“The only difference between artists making money and artists not making money is that the first group is better at business. And there is no evidence that artists who are better at business make better art.”—A Photo Editor - Artists Making Money
I finally got the time to sit down and take a good look through Zoe Strauss’s America book tonight. I’ve been putting it off as, from the work I’d already seen, I knew it was going to be right up my alley, and I wanted to come to it with the time and the mental capacity to appreciate it.
It was worth the wait. Holy moley, it’s good. It’s honest, soulful, and passionate in a way that washes away any day-to-day drudgery and cynicism that I may sometimes have regarding photography. It reaffirms my faith in the medium, quite frankly, and reminds me why I invest so much headspace in it.
As mentioned on La Pura Vida, the use of Flickr as a method of presentation is interesting, and shows the potential of the online space as a way to consume photography.
Not really groundbreaking work but this what good to hear. EDITING!
"We want to steer clear of taking party pictures and being labeled like that because this is more about documentation. We don’t just toss anything up there; we have a real editing process to create a consistent narrative."
