February 2009
I finally got the time to sit down and take a good look through Zoe Strauss’s America book tonight. I’ve been putting it off as, from the work I’d already seen, I knew it was going to be right up my alley, and I wanted to come to it with the time and the mental capacity to appreciate it.
It was worth the wait. Holy moley, it’s good. It’s honest, soulful, and passionate in a way that washes away any day-to-day drudgery and cynicism that I may sometimes have regarding photography. It reaffirms my faith in the medium, quite frankly, and reminds me why I invest so much headspace in it.
As mentioned on La Pura Vida, the use of Flickr as a method of presentation is interesting, and shows the potential of the online space as a way to consume photography.
